Located in Uijeongbu, a leading city of northern Gyeonggi-do, Catholic University of Korea Uijeongbu St. Mary’s Hospital was established on May 7, 1957 to dispense Christian service and charity through medical practice. In 1976, it was annexed to the Catholic University of Korea’s School of Medicine, as the 7th member to join its medical network. In 1986, Uijeongbu St. Mary’s Hospital became a general hospital and the first medical institution in northern Gyeonggi-do to offer treatment using MRI and bone densitometers. Our oncology team also began using radiation therapy equipment for cancer treatment during that year.
In November 1999, Uijeongbu St. Mary’s Hospital was designated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare as the primary regional emergency medical center for the northern Gyeonggi-do region. In June 2000, it entered into a consultation agreement with the 18th Medical Command of the United States Forces in Korea and began offering medical services to U.S. servicemen stationed in northern Gyeonggi-do and their families. Our role as a major regional provider of healthcare services was further expanded in February 2006 when Uijeongbu St. Mary’s Hospital was designated as a medical center for international patients for the northern area of Gyeonggi-do Province. Meanwhile, Uijeongbu St. Mary’s Hospital’s excellence in medical services received major recognition in 2004 when an evaluation of 78 large hospitals in South Korea by the Ministry of Health and Welfare placed it in the fourth position in its nationwide ranking.
Our staff of over 1,300 physicians, physician’s assistants and administrators serves 2,500 outpatients and 650 inpatients each day on average. Uijeongbu St. Mary’s Hospital has cooperative arrangements with more than 100 hospitals and clinics. Our medical team is committed to the health and well-being of the community it serves.
